Russian-Arab trade and economic relations were discussed in detail during the round table that took place on June 17, 2011 during the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum. The round table was organized by the Russian-Arab Business Council, Ministry of Economic Development of Russia, SPIEF Foundation and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Russia.
Prominent representatives of Russian and Arab business and economic circles had been invited to take part in the round table panel discussion, including Chairman of JSFC SISTEMA Corporation, Chairman of the Russian-Arab Business Council Dr. Vladimir Evtushenkov, Director General of the Russian Direct Investment Fund Management Company Mr. Kirill Dmitirev, Member of the Board, Vice-Chairman of Vneshekonombank Mr. Petr Fradkov, Minister of Planning and International Cooperation of Jordan Dr. Jaafar Hassan, Official Representative of the Government of Iraq Dr. Ali Al-Dabbagh, President of Crescent Petroleum Group Badr Jaafar, President of JSFC SISTEMA Corporation Mikhail Shamolin, CEO of Abraaj Capital Limited Mustapha Abdelwadood, Chairman of Moroccan-Russian Business Council Hassan Sentissi, Managing Partner of Rayan Capital Advisors SA Tarek Fawaz. The discussion was led by Mr. Artyom Kapshuk, anchor for the Panorama programme of the Arabic language version of Russia Today TV Channel.
The round table was dedicated to the trade and economic relations between Russia and Arab countries and the reason for absence of Arab investment capitals in the Russian economy. As investing in Russia has a huge potential for the development of Arab business, the participants discussed various ways of increasing the volumes of foreign trade and achieving a new level in economic cooperation, as well as prospects of promoting bilateral innovative projects.
During the round table the Chairman of Moroccan-Russian Business Council Hassan Sentissi proposed the creation of a joint Moroccan-Russian bank headquartered in Casablanca that could provide the necessary backing for the existing trade turnover between the countries.
The Chairman of the Russian-Arab Business Council H.E.Dr. Vladimir Evtushenkov detailed on the experience of international economic cooperation and noted that the purposeful work is the main factor of accomplishment of existing goals in bilateral trade.
The St.Petersburg International Economic Forum hosted a Russian-Arab round table dedicated to the state and development of trade and economic ties for the first time in 2009. The round table named “RUSSIAN–ARAB WORLD: "BUSINESS TO GOVERNMENT DIALOGUE IN THE GLOBAL CRISIS CONDITIONS" was organized by the Russian-Arab Business Council, Ministry of Economic Development of Russia, and the SPIEF Foundation. The participants discussed measures of promotion of Russian-Arab cooperation in the global crisis conditions, practical steps to increase the trade turnover, and the ways to promote mutual investments.
