An exhibition styled “EXPO-RUSSIA 2005” under the patronage of H.M. King Abdallah II was opened at “Holiday Inn” Hotel by Senator Haidar Mourad, chairman of the CCI in Jordan.

About 70 Russian firms, companies and other organizations took part in the event held between March 1 and 3. The representative of the Russian-Arab Business Council took part in this Exhibition. According to its organizers, the Exhibition – held for the forth time - was designed for promoting business and investment interaction between Russian and Arab business circles. Trilateral Russian-Jordanian-Iraqi cooperation seems to be given a fresh impetus as a new line of joint projects with Jordan as a crucial transportation and transit corridor and a perfect playfield for interaction with Baghdad.

Exhibits provided by Russian participants featured a vast geographical expanse ranging from Central and Southern to Northern and Western (Siberian) regions. That was meant to grant our Arab partners a unique opportunity to see a diverse industrial, economic and technological potential of the Russia’s immense territory. Russian exhibits were to reflect a wide spectrum of branches such as energy, oil, gas, transportation, new technologies, pharmaceutics and others.

A special feature of the exhibition was its focus on the actual situation in Iraq, its specific needs in particular equipment and technologies, based on the time-tested positive experience in interaction between Baghdad and Moscow in a wide range of spheres. The organizers of the event emphasized an ever increasing number of participants and its ever widening scope. To compare, the first EXPO-RUSSIA Exhibition, held in Amman, occupied only 240 sq m, while this year’s venue took up over 800 sq m.

The organizers expressed their satisfaction over the goodwill shown by Arab authorities, who had given the exhibition green light.

An international Conference focusing on “Russia – Jordan - Iraq: current prospects for economic cooperation” was timed to the opening of the Exhibition. Mr. A. Ivanov, Deputy Director of the Russian-Arab Business Council, addressed to the participants and stressed the main goals of RABC activities at the present time.
