Russian-Algerian Business Forum and Exhibition Organized for the First Time in Algiers

The Exhibition of Russian goods and services and the Russian-Algerian business forum took place in the city of Algiers in October, 2010. The events were organized by the Russian-Arab Business Council under the auspices of the Chambers of Commerce and industry of the Russian Federation and Algeria and the Russian-Arab and the Russian-Algerian Business Councils. Both events were timed for the visit of the Russian president Dmitry Medvedev to Algeria.

More than 45 key Russian companies participated in the forum and exhibition. The Russian delegation included more than 100 representatives of business circles and media.

Representatives of construction and energy companies and manufacturers of equipment and technologies for oil, gas and petrochemical industries arrived in Algeria from Russia. Companies working in the spheres of communications, transport and technology, machinery, metallurgy, agriculture, food industry, medicine, pharmaceutics and finance, participated in the exhibition and the business forum.

H.E. Sergey Shmatko, the Minister of Energy of the Russian Federation and the Chairman of the Russian part of the Joint Russian-Algerian Intergovernmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation, as well as H.E. Mohammed Benmouradi, the Minister of Industry, Small and Medium Enterprise and Investment of Algeria, took part in the official opening ceremony of the Exhibition and the opening session of the Russian-Algerian forum. The list of participants also included Tatiana Gvilava, Director of the Russian-Arab Business Council, Mohammed Shami, Executive Director of the Chamber of Commerce and industry of Algeria, Igor Kozak, Chairman of the Russian-Algerian Business Council, Abdelqader Israemi, chairman of the Algerian-Russian Business Council, representatives of the management of Russian railways, Uralvagonzavod, VimpelKom, Rostselmash, KAMAZ, Russian Buses – GAZ group, VTF ZIL – Export AMO ZIL, Tupolev, TIRA corporation and other companies.


The exhibition’s business schedule included prolific seminars on business interests. Russian delegates visited a number of Algerian ministries and held talks, concerning the possibility of participation of Russian companies in the implementation of a variety of strategic and infrastructural projects in Algeria.

The schedule included an excursion for the Russian delegates, dedicated to the history and monuments of Algeria.

More than 10 MOUs and contracts were signed during the Russian-Algerian Business Forum and the work on some of the projects has already started.

The official closing ceremony was held October 8, 2010 concluded the official programme. During the ceremony organizers of the event expressed their gratitude to the participants of the Exhibition and Forum and also to the partners who contributed greatly to the success of the event.

Vladislav Lutsenko, the director of the Exhibition said in his speech during the closing ceremony that the Exhibition would become annual. The next Russian-Algerian Exhibition and Business Forum are planned to take place in October, 2011.
